Lyrics Tuesday #8-I write for James

The past two days I attended the New Music Seminar in New York City.  To say it was a brilliant and inspiring experience would be downplaying my time with such wonderful people.  As I walked home, I felt this passion grow for my writing, and felt that this is going to happen, Music will happen. And I thought about the songwriters like Holly Knight, Carol King, and the composers I adored; Thomas Newman, James Horner, Clint Mansell, etc.

And  feeling like I can be near the level of these legends  was an honor in itself!  I daydreamed on my way to the train meeting all these wonderful and inspiring people.  Talking to them, eating sushi and drinking a beer, hell even writing a song.

As I sat on the train home, I kept daydreaming while doing my favorite addictive pass time, scrolling through Facebook, and my heart stopped.

I read this on a friend of mine’s post:

“Breaking: James Horner presumed dead after plane goes down in…”

I had to stop reading. I couldn’t believe it. All feelings of anger, sadness, helplessness poured in.  A man of many talents, composing for Avatar to Titanic, was demise by a pass time of his own.

The man I dreamt to meet will never be, and aside from that selfish thought, the world will never hear his musical voice again, one that many heard, but never took the time to listen.  To those who did, our hearts ache for his music, and for him.

However, his legacy will live on!  He music will be studied.  The beautiful thing about social media is learning about musicians and composers through trending news, and people click! They read! They follow! Most importantly, for James, they will now listen.

His passion, drive, and connection is something remarkable.  Here is his last interview with AP about his music:

I wrote these lyrics when I almost lost someone dear to me, and when I was studying Horner’s works.

Here are my lyrics for you, James, and I will write with honor and pride as you did for your work ❤

The passion the move

To make you, what you do

As you slip away from this place

In hopes for a better state

But you love as much as you do

Even though it might not be you

But the passion stays

And you go away

The absence of you

To inspire us

Enlighten us,

Is a rouse of physical matter

To miss us

Be a part of us

And to know that

You have found that

State of mind a home

Welcome home.

You embody so many emotions in stage

Notions we take

You inspire in ways that are uncanny

But your light goes out

And we are left in doubt

Of what would have been a longer stay

But the passion stays

And you go away

The absence of you

To inspire us

Enlighten us,

Is a rouse of physical matter

To miss us

Be a part of us

And to know that

You have found that

State of mind a home

Welcome home.
